Wow, it’s already Easter again! Yet it seems like Christmas has only been a few weeks ago! Maybe it’s because of the pandemic, where we are just recovering from the effects of the Christmas celebrations, or because between homeschooling, work and quarantine, we don’t pause as often as we should.
Sustainable Easter gifts
Usually there are no big gifts for Easter, mainly some chocolate and colourful eggs. But if you still want to give something away, here are some great ideas:
Flowers / Plants
How about giving a potted flower instead of the bouquet that will be wilted in a few days? I particularly like the Eggling herb egg for Easter. The recipient will benefit more from this than from a bouquet of flowers that wilts quickly. Children also enjoy gardening sets with seed bags. In Spain, for example, you can find them here.

A perennial favorite, especially in Corona times when we are constantly washing our hands. For Easter, there’s a special lemon and elderberry variant that will be available from March 23rd on. Get it quick before it’s sold out!
The sun is getting stronger and our skin is usually not prepared for it after the winter. Why not give a sunscreen based on natural, mineral filters as a gift? Waterproof and without artificial UV filters. Also available in pocket format.
Chocolate
Easter nests with chocolate eggs and bunnies are a must. It is best to look for sustainable and fair chocolate with high-quality ingredients.
Easter crafts and activities
Egg dyeing and colouring
A great activity that all children love is egg colouring. It’s best to buy natural dyes and free-range organic eggs! There are also plenty of recipes around for home-made dyes. Use leaves, grasses, etc. to create great patterns on the coloured eggs!
Our children also love to paint blown-out eggs with pens or watercolours. Simply drill a small hole in the top and bottom of a raw egg, blow the contents into a bowl, shish a skewer through to help hold the egg in place, and let the painting begin! The finished eggshells can be used as Easter decorations, and you can bake something delicious with the egg yolk and egg white.
Baking

Easter cards and crafts
Easter cards are a great way to make something useful and surprise the family. Whether it’s fingerprinting, potato printing, fold-out cards, gluing or painting, you’ll find tons of great craft ideas for different ages on the internet. You can also craft bunnies, chicks etc from different materials like toilet rolls, wool or paper.
Search the Easter nests and go for an Easter walk
When I was a kid we used to search for the Easter nests in grandma’s garden, and later during the day we would go for a walk. Obviously, most kids are not so keen on going for a walk, so to make it more exciting the “Easter Bunny” would drop some chocolate eggs now and then. We kids had lots of fun and apart from finding eggs discovered plenty of other exciting things in the nature surrounding us.
